Believe it or not, I never imagined I would have any sort of platform to reach women or find such a strong passion for fitness. After having my daughter, EVERYTHING SHIFTED and I realized the importance of being health conscious now that I wasn't just living for myself!
While I was going to the gym occasionally, I still didn’t understand the importance of proper nutrition!! I would go most of the day without eating, mostly because I just wasn’t hungry and would rather have a cup of coffee and a sleeve of graham crackers, seriously. I was breastfeeding my daughter (for 19 whole months!) and this was taking a very big toll on my body and health, although I didn’t see it at the time. When breastfeeding it is super important to get all the necessary nutrients because your baby is basically taking them all away from you. Not eating enough food combined with breastfeeding lead me to get down to my lowest weight ever of 103 pounds by her first birthday. I remember my mom telling me how skinny I looked. But, to me, I took it as a compliment. I mean, who doesn’t want to be told they look skinny after just having a baby?
I still had no idea what I was doing in regards to nutrition through and this initiative to get healthy for my daughter and for myself had left me in a worse place than when I started. Okay so here I am… FINALLY making this a new lifestyle and a habit. Something I had always wanted to do. I thought I was starting to figure a few things out.
Then one day at the gym I was approached by a trainer who worked there. He asked me if I had ever thought about competing and said I had “the look of a bikini girl.” I told him no, that it was nowhere near a thought in my mind. Competing was something I knew nothing about, and really didn’t even know existed. I initially told him thanks but no thanks, but a few months went by and I started to think about it a little more. I was feeling good about posting gym selfies and started seeing a little muscle definition. I was no fitness guru by any means, but it interested me a bit so I reached back out to him.
I had 6 weeks to be stage ready and I was told it was doable so I was ready to go balls to the wall. I stuck to my meal plan to a freaking T. No cheats. Killed every one of my workouts. Practiced posing daily. Little did I know this was the definition of crash dieting and was about to screw with my mind and relationship with food and
the reason I’m so passionate about helping other women now!! I was naïve to this whole competing thing so the coaches I had in my eyes were the holy grail of the entire industry. Whatever they said I went with it. I had no idea why I was eating the foods I was, but it was on my meal plan so that is what I ate. I had never even heard of Macronutrients or Flexible Dieting, If It Fits Your Macros.. Say what? I started obsessing over food and saw people post their protein pancakes with peanut butter and wished I could just have a bite. My pantry was full, and I mean FULL of snacks, sweets and treats that had never even interested me before but I had an urge to buy simply to look at. I started this to be a better role model for my daughter and ended up in a place where I developed this horrible relationship with food that would go on to affect me way longer than I would have imagined. I knew that if I didn’t find another way it would also start to affect her.
I’m a nurturer.
I love being a mom and having the ability to shape and mold this little person of mine into her very best self. But, I never thought I would want to be an advocate in the health and fitness industry. In fact, at one time said specifically that was what I DID NOT want to do.
This past year has opened my eyes to so much.
I’ve been let down many times but also brought up in so many ways.
I have met some amazing people that have shown me that the sky's the limit once you get rid of those limiting beliefs. It only takes that first step in the right direction. I always preach that you are capable of so much more than you know, because I know that you are.
I want to help you be your best self and not let you go through what I did!! I want to show you that you don’t have to be restrictive and hard on yourself to see results. I’m all about flexible and sustainable dieting. I have been through the trials and errors, do’s and don'ts of nutrition and training and finding what works best. I want to help you as much as you want to help yourself. Don’t be afraid to make a change in your life if you aren’t fulfilled, whether it is in your personal life or health and fitness related, just like I did.
I don't believe in cutting out the foods you love to achieve results. I believe in balance and sustainability.
No quick fixes. Just consistency and progressive overload.
